Cohort studies are commonly promoted in epidemiology as almost a ‘golden’ standard for their value in clearly portraying attributable changes over time in a very specific population. 

At the same time, however, cohort studies have numerous potential drawbacks and risks.  My fundamental concerns about cohorts are numerous.  These are generalisations on the politics of health and research, not personal critiques of any individuals currently involved in cohort projects.
